You'll receive just the amount you need to feel relaxed and unaware of the dental procedures. Most people have little or no memory of the dental visit.

Will I feel groggy after my dental visit?

The length of your sedation depends on the length of your dental visit and the medications chosen especially for you. You are required to have someone drive you home for your own safety. Most people feel slightly groggy or sleepy for a few hours after their dental visit is complete.

Is Sedation Dentistry Safe?

Both Dr. Sivie and Dr. Williams are certified by the State of Texas in Oral Conscious Sedation and Inhalation Sedation Dentistry. Dr. Williams is also Certified in IV Conscious Sedation and is a member with Fellowship Status in DOCS, the Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation and is a member of the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology.

We will review your medical history and consult with your physician if you have any medical conditions that warrant a medical consult. Throughout your sedation visit, your vital signs will be constantly monitored and recorded. Our entire team is certified in Basic CPR and Dr. Williams is certified in ACLS, Advanced Cardiac Life Support. We regularly perfect our responses to both medical and dental emergencies.

Will my insurance cover Sedation?

We will check to see if your insurance plan provides coverage for sedation. Financial arrangements and dental financing can be provided for portions that are not covered.

During your visit

Before scheduling any treatment, we will review your medical history and explain how Sedation Dentistry can work for you. Dr. Williams and Dr. Sivie want you to feel good about going forward towards a healthy, new smile. On the day of your appointment, a companion will take you to our office, we'll give you some medicine to take-usually a pill or liquid. We will make certain that you're relaxed and completely comfortable and monitor you very closely while you're sedated. Most of our patients at Kathryn Jodry DDS never know they have received an injection. That's because of Dr. Jodry's famous virtually "Painless Injection" technique. A topical anesthetic is applied to the tissue with a swab. This anesthetic painlessly numbs the spot where the doctor will give you one of the most gentle injections.

3)Local Anesthetic For Pain Free Care

Injectable anesthetics given by Dr. Jodry, such as Lidocaine, prevent pain in a specific area of your mouth during treatment by blocking the nerves that sense or transmit pain and numbing mouth tissues.

They cause the temporary numbness often referred to as a "fat lip" feeling. Injectable anesthetics may be used in such procedures as filling cavities, preparing teeth for crowns or treating gum disease.

Sedation dentistry is a technique employed by many dentists today to help calm the nerves of patients who:

How does sedation dentistry work?
In sedation dentistry, an experienced dentist will use one of several different sedation drugs to alter the patient's central nervous system and leave the patient feeling relaxed. The drug may just leave the patient feeling tranquil or it may actually cause the patient to fall asleep. Regardless of how the drug affects the patient, he/she will most likely not remember the majority of the procedure (including the sounds and smells)...an attractive side-effect for most patients. The patient will not be unconscious.

Sedation drugs used in a dentist setting are generally safe. A dentist will discuss the different options available and determine if you are a candidate for this technique. Some common, highly effective choices include:
• Valium (Diazepam)
• Ativan (Lorazepam)
• Triazolam
• Vistaril (Hydroxyzine)
• Sonata (Zaleoplon)

In some cases the patient will take the sedation drug in a pill form (no needles) one hour prior to the appointment time. Because the effects of the drug may last up to six hours, the patient will need to be driven to the appointment as well as driven home by a family member or friend after the procedure is completed.
